Set custom division entry restrictions on event registrations (e.g Gender, Discipline, State)

Many divisions have custom restrictions such as Gender, Discipline and/or State. Liveheats, therefore, allows you the flexibility of restricting entries into a division based on any custom field that has the type dropdown.

Gender is to most common restriction use case for this, so we will use this as an example in this article, but the same step would apply for any other custom division restriction.

How to set custom division restrictions on registration

Go to the Event settings and click the Registrations tab

Scroll down to the Registration form section, and ensure the field your division registration is linked to is activated.

If the custom field doesn't exist yet, please follow this article to get that set up before moving on to the next step and ensure the custom field type is dropdown: Creating custom fields

As mentioned above in this example, we are going to use the custom field Gender in this example

Once the custom field is active, navigate to the Entry restrictions tab and scroll down to the Division eligibility rules area and click the + icon next to the Division that requires the restriction

In this example, we will set a gender restriction for the U14 Male division.

Click the name of the custom field from the list

Once clicked, search and select the option(s) you'd like to create a restriction for

In the example here, we select the option Male to ensure only Athetels who select themself as having the Gender Male during registration will be eligible to enter into the U14 Male division.

Please note that when using your own custom field, the eligibility options will be customised to the options that were set up when creating the custom field. E.g if a Gender custom field was set up to only have the options of Male and Female, Non-binary would not be an option to set as a restriction.

Click Update to add the restriction, and then click Save at the bottom of the Entry restrictions tab

To edit an existing restriction or add an additional restriction for the same custom field, click the cell in the restriction column for the division.

Continue this same process to apply other custom, age or nationality division restrictions. Remember to click Save at the bottom of the Entry restrictions tab to ensure all restrictions have been saved.

Then, during registration, your athletes will now see the following style message and will not be able to enter if they do not fit the requirements for the division:

How to remove custom division restrictions on registration

To clear or remove a division restriction, in click on the restriction in the Division eligibility rules that needs to be removed

Click Clear when the modal appears - this will remove the restartion and close the modal

Then click Save at the bottom of the Entry restrictions tab
