# Setting the number of available spots in a division (registration max limits)

Liveheats allows you to set the number of available spots in each division. This setting has two influences:

* sets limits on the number of athletes who can register for that division. Once the limit is met, athletes can no longer select that division
* sets the number of spots in the first round of your heat draw, incase you'd like to leave empty spots available in the draw for reserves or alternates

# How to set the available spots in a division

1. From your  **Event dashboard** click the relevant division
2. Click the  **Division settings** button on top right

3. Scroll down to **Advanced,** and click to expand
4. Enter the maximum number of spots in this division into the Available spots field

5. Click save to update

*Once the limit is met, athletes will no longer be able to register for this division, unless a space becomes available. When you generate a heat draw, the available spots will also determine the number of starting athletes in the first round. You can edit this in the preview draw dialogue.*
