# How to set an modifier, like a DNS, DNF, Interference, Double Whammy, or Disqualification - non-surfing formats

When you need to modify an athlete's ride or run, or mark it as something aside from a numerical score (e.g. 9.0), you use **Modifiers.** In LiveHeats, **Modifiers** are specific to each sport.

We support modifiers for a range of sports. This article describes how to add and or remove a modifier from a ride, run, score or result and how each of the [supported modifiers](#1-modifiers-explained) work for either [Judged sports](#1-how-to-add-or-remove-a-modifier-in-judged-sports-as-a-judge) or  [Racing sports](#1-how-to-add-or-remove-a-modifier-in-racing-sports)

# Modifiers explained

**Interference** - halves the athlete's second-best ride score, INT tag will be applied

**Priority interference** - zeroes out the athlete's second-best ride score, INT tag will be applied

**Double whammy** - points are doubled

**Team 5-point penalty** - applies a 5-point penalty to the team

**DNI (Did Not Improve)** - Athlete did not improve on their previous score/run/result

# Common questions

**How do we enter a Paddling interference (surfing)?**

If the offending athlete did not stand up and didn't receive a score, then you should add the interference to the athlete's next available ride, as illustrated with the "+" icon. Select the interference that alligns with your rule book - if they lose their full second counting score "Priority interference" or if they lose half of their second counting score "Interference":
